A newly restored set off six ladder‑back side chairs, upholstered in a subtle magenta damask, showcases the chatoyant beauty of beech wood finished with a clear, rubbed oil‑wax glaze. The frame is expertly crafted: rectilinear lines contrast with graceful curves, lightening the overall silhouette, while the finger‑jointed feature speaks to over a century of mastery in bent‑wood furniture making. These chairs were produced by TON (the nationalised Thonet operation during the early years of the Fourth Republic of Czechoslovakia, 1948–1989) for James Richardson Furniture in Australia.
